Unclutter Your Clothes (And Your Life) With A Closet Organizer

If you’re like most people, your closet was once an empty box with a simple shelf and rod. Closet organization was probably the last thing on your mind. Then, over time, all your clothes started piling up. And, once in a while when you start really digging into it, you found a shirt you forgot you even owned. Closet organizers can help you get your morning sanity back.

A simple form of closet organizer is a shelving unit. These shelves are perfect for storing clothes that are not in season. They also keep clothes separated by category, such as shirts on one shelf, shorts on another, blouses on the next, and so on. The most versatile shelving units are adjustable for even more flexibility in organizing your clothes by season or grouped by color. Just think of all the extra space you will have once your clothes are folded and put into the shelving spaces. This is especially important if your closet is small to begin with.

The first step you need to take is to purge your closet. Once you have everything out, you can determine what items can be organized in ways to make more room. Ideally, you will want to be able to see (at a glance) each item that isn’t in a drawer.

You are going to want to donate any items you don’t intend on using again. Items you use frequently should be hung up so they are very visible.

Measure the dimensions of your closet (don’t forget the height). You will want to maximize the amount of shelves and cabinets so there isn’t any wasted space. You will need these measurements regardless of whether you shop in a store or online.

Plan on having plenty of shelves. You should be able to put in additional shelves if you install the rack and clip type of shelving. It’s also a good idea to try and keep items off the floor. Otherwise, things start piling up again from the bottom on up.

Shoe racks are a great way to save space in our closet. If you tend to keep your shoes in boxes, you are actually using up more space than is necessary. Also, when your shoes are in the boxes you bought them in, you probably have to open a lot of boxes in your search for the right pair of shoes. Look for a rack that will hold all your shoes and then some so you don’t end up putting a couple of straggling pairs of shoes in the corner.

Once you have a handle on your closet, you will notice the start of each day will be just a little easier.
