Closet organizers have been around for quite a while. But there are a few options available out there for those who want to have one for their own closet but don’t want to spend a whole lot of money in the process. Simply do it yourself. You could choose to build a closet organizer completely from scratch, and this is perfectly fine if you have all the skill and tools required to do the job. But unfortunately, most of use don’t. To make one completely from scratch, you need some tools that can add up to a lot of money if you have to go out and buy them all just for this project.

But fortunately, you can purchase a closet organization kit. With these kits, you get all of the components that come already cut to size. They also have holes drilled in the right places to assembly is made much easier. This actually makes it so that a lot more people can do this project since you won’t need any special tools.

Another important advantage to using a kit is that the amount of time it takes to do the whole project is considerably less than if you were to start from nothing. Perhaps the longest time you should plan for is the preparation of the closet for the installation of your closet system.

You will need to make sure everything is removed first before you should even consider putting your kit into your closet. Take out all of your belongings and then you will need to remove your current organization system which is usually a rod and shelf. You will also need to take out the brackets and then fill any holes left from the screws. This is also a great time to completely paint all your closet walls so you have a fresh new closet for your new organizer.

If your closet is currently not utilizing any closet organizers, then you may not be getting the most out of your closet space. The standard closet that is put in most homes is simply a hanging rod that is supported by a couple of weak brackets and a shelf that sits above that. These shelves and rods usually go from one end or side of the closet all the way to the other side.

Now, you are left with a pretty huge space above the shelf and below where your clothes hang. But, not all of your clothes hang down from hangers. So what you are left with is the shelf and most people will either put their belongings into boxes or bins and store them up on the shelf or simply stack up their clothes into piles. That can get out of hand pretty quickly. And, who wants to go into their closet to look for anything when it is such a mess?

Closet systems are made to use your whole closet better because they break your closet up into smaller sections. The way they do this is by using multiple shelves that can go up one side of your closet and then breaking up the remaining area by using two or three hanging rods. By breaking up the area, you will be utilizing more of the closet and its easier to keep your clothes neater since they are in smaller groups.

The space around the floor under the hanging clothes is often used by most people for storing their shoes. But what commonly happens is that your shoes end up being tossed around and end up all over the place. This can become a tripping hazard as well as a headache. Fortunately, shoe organizers can be added easily to this area. They come as racks so you can keep the pairs together and keep them off of the floor.

Another benefit of closet organizers is that the sections where the shelves are can be made into drawers. This is perfect for storing socks, underwear and any smaller items that are hard to stack.

Closet systems are, for a large part, the organizer kit that has a unit of shelves and a couple of hanging rods. A system can also include shoe racks, tie racks bins and boxes that are specially made for your organizer kit, and the list goes on. It includes anything that has to do with proper storage of your clothing items. Notice, I didn’t mention storage of other items that end up getting stored in your closet. Most of these items are better suited out in the garage or in the attic where they are out of the way. You don’t want a lot of items in your closet that aren’t related to you clothing.

Each time you go into your closet, you want it to be a good experience and not one that is full of stress. If you put a lot of junk in your closet, this is exactly what will happen. When you to go get dressed, you don’t want to be hindered by boxes or golf clubs in the corner. These things get in the way and give you less room for your clothes.

A good starting point to having a well organized closet is to simply purge your closet of everything. When you are moving your clothes out, sort through them and remove anything you haven’t worn in a year or so. You can store these items somewhere else or get rid of them. I suggest donating them to charity.

Once you have a closet organizer in place, you won’t have any room for all of these items. Organizers are meant and designed to store clothes and nothing else. By simplifying the items in your closet, you should be well on your way to having a much more organized life.

Closet organization systems are a lot more than just closet organization. They can really help you save some time and headaches when it comes to picking out your clothes in the morning and putting them away when you are doing your laundry.

Let’s face it, who needs the extra stress in the morning when we are trying to make it on time to work? It can be hard enough as it is getting ready for work. But you really don’t need to add to the stress level with a mess of a closet to deal with. Your mornings could go a lot more smoothly if you are fortunate enough to have a closet organizer already installed in your closet. But if you don’t, its never too late to install one yourself.

Closet organization begins with a basic closet organizer kit. Kits are designed to be easy to install and there are plenty of configurations so the perfect organizer is out there for you. Your needs are unique and so are the accessories you can get for your organizers. For instance, if you have a lot of shoes, then you can design your closet to store more shoes. This will take up more space so you will have to sacrifice somewhere else.

Once you have figured out how your closet is going to be configured, and you have installed your closet organizer, then the only thing left is to get your clothes set up so you won’t be spending more time in the future getting it all neat and tidy again.

When you have all of your clothes out of the closet, sort through them and get rid of anything you don’t need anymore. Some clothes you will keep for special occasions so its best to store them out of the way if possible. Closet organization is an ongoing process so if you keep up with it, and install an organizer, it shouldn’t be a problem that you will have to deal with later on.

Great closet organizers do it yourself projects always start with a properly prepared closet. Since your closet probably needs to be cleaned out, it best to start totally from scratch. Begin by taking out all of your belongings from your closet. That means everything, including any clothes, storage boxes or bins, junk on the floor. All of it.

Now the only thing you should have left are the items that are attached to the walls. Since what we are looking for is a completely bare closet, these items need to be removed as well. They will just get in the way and make it impossible to install your new closet organizer. Try to be careful when you are removing the brackets that hold the shelf and rod. For most, this is simply done by removing a few screws. Your closet may have some wooden supports to hold the shelf in place. These can be removed by the same manner.

Once this is all removed, patch up any holes left by the screws. Your walls will show through in some places when you have your organizer kit installed. Once the plaster is dry, sand it smooth and add a fresh coat of paint to the entire closet.

This is the easiest time to check for anything else that may need to be repaired since there isn’t anything in your way. Check all of your trim work and repair it if necessary.

And, that’s all there is to it. Your closet should now be ready for you to install your closet organizer kit.

I suppose you have already done your research and therefore made the decision that you just can’t live without a closet organizer system in your closet, so now what? Remember, a kit will come with all of the closet organizer components as well as detailed instructions of how to install it since each type of kit is different. Your closet won’t always be the same dimensions as other houses around you. So, of course, to buy all the right kit, you will need to make accurate measurements. You should always measure everything once and then go back and measure it all out again to make sure they are correct.

But, you will still need to make your closet ready for the install. Start by taking it all out. That’s right, everything. Doesn’t this sound like a great opportunity to sort through all of your belongings and get rid of all the stuff you don’t wear anymore. Giving all of it to charity is always a good thing. Getting back to your closet, you will have to remove any of the old storage system that you had in it. This is probably only the shelf, rod and brackets. This should be a fairly easy thing to do. If there are any holes left in the walls, take the time now to patch them up, sand when they are dry and give your whole closet a fresh coat of paint.

Remember, the walls will show through in a lot of places if you’ve noticed in any photographs you’ve seen of closet organizers. It wouldn’t look right to have messy walls behind a great looking organizer. Everything should now be ready for you to have fun with the installation.

There’s not need to go knocking down any walls to make more room in your closets for all of your clothing. One of the best options you have is to install closet organizers in one or even all of your closets. Sure it will take you some time and effort, but the rewards can be certainly worth it.

The first thing you will need to do is to take out all of your belongings so you can more accurately access the situation. Cleaning out your closet shouldn’t be that hard and there’s a good chance that you needed to anyway. And, besides, when was the last time you completely removed everything just so you could put it all back in an organized manner?

Once you have it all out, then you can remove the organization system that is currently in place. I use the term “organization system” lightly since most closets come with a simple rod and shelf that is standard. And, this doesn’t really hold that many clothes or even help you at all with organization.

Now that everything has been removed, you may need to fix some holes and add some paint but that’s about it. The shell of your closet should look a bit roomier now that everything is out. Now is the best time to take some measurements so that you can pick out the closet organization system that will fit best.

Your new closet organizer should come with all the components and hardware that you will need. Simply follow the instructions and you will have a real organization system that will last for years to come.

Just having closet organizers can be a great time saver for you on those mornings when you need it the most. You know the situation. You wake up late because the alarm didn’t go off. You’re rushing around because you have a meeting that you have to get to. And, the last thing you need is having to dig through a big pile of clothes to find a pair of matching shoes.

With a closet organization system installed in your closet, you can really help eliminate this problem. Now, just because you install one doesn’t mean that your closet will automatically be well organized and neat. You actually have to put in some effort to keeping your clothes organized. But, it does become easier than if you only have the single hanging rod and shelf system that is provided as standard equipment in most closets.

The typical closet organizer will have a modular shelving unit or two depending on the design and manufacturer. But most systems rely on the same basic concepts. A bank of shelves is either set up on one side or even just in the middle area of the closet. Then, a rod to hang your shirts on is placed somewhere toward the top of your closet of to one side or both sides of the shelving unit.

The big advantage of having a closet organizer kit is that the design of them uses up more of the available space in your closet. This allows you to fit more clothes into the space you already had but weren’t using.

Closet organizers are a great way to not only keeping your closet nice and organized, but also for saving you a lot of time in the mornings when you go looking for that one particular shirt you just have to wear. But what do you do if you don’t quite have the budget to buy a complete closet organization system?

Yes, you could do without a closet organizer if you really have to, but here are a few simple things you can do to really help get control of your messy closet.

First, you need to purge your closet of all the items that you don’t use very often. You don’t have to get rid of them. You can put them in a guest room closet or even store them in bins and put them in the garage. A good example of the kinds of clothes you can store are clothes that are out of season.

You can then add some additional shelves. If you are up to doing a small weekend project, then you can simply add an extra shelf above the existing one. This will double your shelf storage space. And, there should be plenty of room high up in your closet that wasn’t being used efficiently before.

Another great accessory to buy is a shoe organizer. These usually come separate from a complete organizer kit so you shouldn’t have to break the bank to get one.

These couple of things should be enough to get you by for a while until you have saved up for an actual kit.

There are actually more little spaces in your closet that can be utilized than you thought. The main ones I’m talking about are the ones on each side of your closet. If you have the type of closet that uses a couple of sliding doors, then you probably know what I’m talking about.

Along each side of your closet is a space that is about two feet deep or even more in most closets. If you have a lot of hanging clothes then this should be OK for you as the shelf and rod extend all the way to the side walls and you can utilize the hanging space. But, suppose you have a lot of small items and not enough shelving space to put them on. You could always stack these item in boxes or bins and stick them off to the sides of your closet. Or, you can install a set of simple shelves to go up the sides of your closet.

These can be made out of any material that you want. You can opt to get wire shelving from a home improvement store or you could upgrade that to wooden shelves. Either way, you can’t go wrong. And, both wire and wood are easy to install and don’t require a lot of tools to do the job. You should be able to install them in less than a day. That’s painted and everything!
